Why More Indian Travellers Are Choosing Oktoberfest?
The rise in bookings from India reflects a broader shift towards experience-led and event-led travel.
Travellers are increasingly planning international holidays around major experiences such as cultural festivals, music concerts, sporting events, food experiences and large-scale celebrations.
For Indian travellers, Oktoberfest can become the main reason for visiting Munich rather than simply being one activity included in a traditional European sightseeing itinerary.
This trend also points towards growing interest in independent and experience-focused international holidays, particularly among travellers looking for immersive cultural experiences.
Solo Travellers Make Up the Largest Oktoberfest Travel Segment
Solo travel is another notable trend in the latest booking data.
Solo travellers account for 47% of international air bookings to Munich during the Oktoberfest period, making them the largest traveller segment.
Couples represent around 33% of bookings, while groups of three to five people account for 13%. Larger groups of six or more make up the remaining 7%.
For Indian travellers, the growth in event-led travel could also support a wider shift towards independent international trips built around experiences rather than conventional sightseeing.
Oktoberfest 2026 Is Becoming Part of Longer European Trips
Oktoberfest is also becoming part of longer European journeys for some international visitors.
While shorter trips of one to five nights continue to account for the majority of bookings, longer stays are growing. Travel lasting 14 nights or more has increased by 13% year-on-year and now represents more than 6% of bookings.
For travellers flying from India, this creates an opportunity to combine Munich Oktoberfest with other European destinations as part of a longer holiday.
