Authorities in Goa have tightened security along several of the state’s most popular beaches after tourists reported incidents of harassment and intrusive behaviour. The move comes after complaints from visitors who said they were repeatedly approached for selfies or photographed without permission while spending time by the sea.

Goa Tourists Report Being Approached For Selfies

Tourists have been reporting instances of being approached for selfies. Several visitors have mentioned being approached by strangers who requested selfies or attempted to photograph them without permission. In certain instances, tourists stated that the requests persisted even after they declined. Others have also reported feeling uncomfortable after being stared at or filmed while on the beach.

Police Increase Presence On Popular Beaches

To prevent such incidents, the police have increased patrols across several busy beach stretches. Authorities have also warned that anyone found harassing visitors, forcing selfies, or taking photos without permission could face immediate action. The intention, officials say, is to send a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

Lifeguards Asked To Watch For Crowd Behaviour

Lifeguards, who are already responsible for keeping swimmers safe, have also been asked to remain alert to situations where tourists might feel uncomfortable. Because they spend the entire day along the shoreline, they are often the first to notice when a situation begins to escalate.

Protecting The Beach Experience

Tourism officials say maintaining a safe and respectful environment is essential for a destination that depends heavily on visitors.

Goa’s beaches, with their promise of sun-soaked days and a carefree atmosphere, are a huge attraction for those seeking a break. By increasing monitoring and responding quickly to complaints, the government hopes to ensure that visitors continue to feel welcome.

Officials are also encouraging tourists to report any uncomfortable situations immediately so that action can be taken without delay. The aim, they say, is simple — to make sure everyone can enjoy the beaches without being disturbed.
