Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir — The snow crunches underfoot, crisp mountain air fills your lungs, and the valley sparkles under the winter sun. For those arriving in Pahalgam this week, it feels like stepping into a postcard. With the New Year around the corner, the hill town is buzzing again, filled with travelers eager to welcome 2026 in the heart of the Himalayas.

Families, Friends, and Solo Travelers Return

The streets, once quiet after earlier security concerns, are alive with excitement. Hotels, homestays, and guesthouses are almost fully booked. Tourists are here not just for the views—they’re lacing up for winter sports, savoring steaming cups of local kahwa, exploring winding streets, and soaking in the festive buzz.

“It feels like the perfect start to the year,” says Ritu Sharma, visiting from Delhi with her family. “The mountains look beautiful, the streams are frozen in spots, and the security here actually makes us feel safe.”

Even groups of friends from Mumbai and Bangalore laugh as they take photos with the snowy mountains in the background, sharing stories and snapping selfies to capture every moment.

Feeling Safe Again

Earlier this year, Pahalgam was shaken by a tragic terror attack, and tourism slowed dramatically. Since then, authorities have worked tirelessly to make visitors feel secure. Police patrols have increased, checkpoints have been set up, and emergency systems are in place.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has publicly acknowledged past mistakes and reassured visitors that the town is now well-protected. And judging by the steady stream of cars, taxis, and buses arriving daily, travelers are taking notice.

A Boost for Local Lives

For local shopkeepers, hoteliers, and guides, the return of tourists is more than a seasonal trend—it’s a lifeline. Small businesses that had struggled to survive now have hope for a prosperous New Year.

“Seeing tourists back in town is incredibly heartening,” says a hotel owner. “Tourism is how most of us make a living, and this festive season feels like a fresh start.”

Street vendors serving steaming momos and local snacks have also noticed the difference. “People are smiling, enjoying, spending. It feels like Pahalgam is alive again,” one vendor says.

Kashir’s Winter Magic Draws Crowds

Pahalgam isn’t the only place attracting visitors. Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and other valleys are filling up as well. The snow, the adventure opportunities, and the peaceful beauty of Kashmir continue to draw travelers from across India and abroad. For many, this is more than a holiday—it’s a chance to reconnect with nature, friends, and family.

A Promising Start to 2026

As 2026 approaches, Pahalgam is ready to welcome visitors with open arms. Snow-covered peaks, bustling markets, warm local hospitality, and reinforced security make it the perfect place to begin a new year. For those arriving now, it’s clear: Pahalgam isn’t just a destination—it’s an experience.
